What I Did This Afternoon

(Not actual otter- Model otter)

The Beach, March 23th, 2007 (Actual beach, not stunt beach)

I spent the day here today for a birthday party. It's 47 degrees, but to Washingtonians in their uniform of fleece and boots, this is beach time. The kids had a blast, though there were a few (mine is included in this group) who left with wet socks and pants despite new croc boots.

And for me, the most interesting thing was for the very first time in my life, I saw an otter on the beach. I've known they were around. My sister had a place near the Ballard Locks and an otter would climb up her stairs from the water and swim in her pool. (Is that not the cutest thing?) But I've never seen one in person. This one was huge. Dog-sized. And it had this curvy dinosaur appearance about it.
Also saw and heard two eagles, two golden retrievers, a blue jay, and people wrapped in blankets.
