My daughter came home from school having learned about Martin Luther King Jr. The class had made Happy Birthday drawings and each had made a small booklet about his accomplishments. When I asked my daughter who MLK Jr. was she said, "He was a nice man." When I asked why we celebrate his birthday she said, "Because he brought black and white people together. Like you and daddy." My husband, who is Filipino, said, "Sweetie, I'm not black." Her reply, "Well, you're brownish."
Good enough.
Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!
