You know, I've been annoyed with the National Book Awards the last 2 years for the number of poetry books by women that have been represented. Out of 10 books, one was by a woman. I don't like to think this way, to sort things out by gender, but it's been quite noticeable to me lately.
Maybe because of my research paper, it's been difficult finding articles or books on humorous women poets or writers, there are always so many more men listed. When I ask people who are your favorite poets that use humor, the list is mostly male: Billy Collins, Bob Hicok, Tony Hoagland, Dean Young, Thomas Lux.
This is what's on my mind tonight. This and the perfect crescent moon outside my window.
