A day behind but catching up...
And
It was morning and I left
my empire of featherbed
and cats. And the kitchen sink
said remember what you didn’t do
and the dishes squealed to be washed
and a dog appeared and wanted
to be fed, and the cats woke up
and followed the dog, and Neruda
appeared under lamp light,
and my neighbor saw me but didn’t
wave, and the weather looked
pretty good, and my shoes were misplaced,
and the milk was half-full, and someone
set up a game on the breakfast table,
and someone called on the phone
and I was trying to write a poem, and
the radio became someone’s song,
and rooms became disorderly, and
someone wanted to dress as a fairy,
and someone wanted to find her wings,
and the dishes still weren’t washed,
but the dog was fed, and the cats
were asleep and it began again
as it always does, it began.
